SUSTAINAILITY

How to make your activewear last longer

There’s nothing like a new gym fit to motivate you to work out, and when you find your go-to leggings, it’s hard to want to wear anything else. However, for some reason we don’t usually treat our activewear with as much care as we do compared to our normal wardrobe. Yet if you actually think about it, our activewear needs more care than our normal clothes, after all, we’re going to be sweating, moving, lifting and so on in them.

So, we’re here to help you out, to help you look after your gym wardrobe and be that little bit more sustainable.

Wash straight away!

We are all guilty of this but coming home from the gym and leaving your sweat ridden gear all clustered in your bag for a few hours or even overnight until you can be bothered to sort it isn’t helping anyone. You’re only going to enhance the smell! Wash those clothes ASAP, unless they have an antimicrobial finish! Another key tip for washing is to turn your kit inside out. This is because sweat is absorbed into the fabric nearest to our skin, the inside of the garments.  By turning the garments inside out, this allows the detergent and water to easily access the source of the sweat odours’ leaving the garments cleaner!

Polygiene

If you are new to the word Polygiene, then you can find out more here, however, in short Polygiene use their ‘Stay Fresh’ technology which can be applied to clothes and help with their durability and help the garments stay fresh. This amazing technology allows us to wash the garments significantly less, and keep it fresh and clean, aligning with their motto – Wear More, Wash Less

We have teamed up with Polygiene, with their Stay Fresh technologies applied to some of our products showcased below.

Air dry when you can!

Activewear with stretch properties does not like to be exposed to high heats, the heat can make odours more pronounced. So, after washing, avoid the drier and leave them to air dry!  Air drying your kits can also help to: reduce static / increase longevity of garments by reducing amount of rubbing and wear / reduces colour fading and shrinkage from heat / driers break down elastane faster reducing the stretch...which is super important especially in leggings! When possible, hang your activewear out to air dry to keep them looking and smelling fresh but make sure to always follow the care labels!

Rotate your wardrobe

We all love new trends, and when you get your hands on that new set you’ve been waiting forever for, we want to wear them and only them! However, we can’t just completely disregard our older products. Constantly wearing the same set, washing, and then repeating whilst older gear is in the back of your wardrobe completely forgotten about isn’t helping you or the environment. Constant usage and washes will slowly cause damage to your new activewear and having other products you aren’t wearing is just a straight up waste. Make sure keep rotating your wardrobe before you work out!

Follow the care labels!

As mentioned before, heat and your activewear don’t get along very well. So, make sure you always follow the care labels and don’t wash on a higher heat than recommended. Another key tip would be to not mix your activewear with rougher fabrics such as cotton or wool. For example, washing with jeans can cause damage, and make sure any zips are fastened if washed alongside your clothing.

If you can follow these tips and get more wears out of your training clothing, not only have we helped you, but in doing so we together hopefully have helped the environment. Doing our bit to make the changes our planet needs!
